PUL RELEASES 7TH QUARTERLY MEDIA ALERT REPORT









(January 9, 2018, Monrovia)- The Press Union of Liberia is once more pleased to release its Media Alert Report to the public.

The report, covers the first week of 1 October to 31 December 2018. This edition of the threat tracker documents media violations, attacks and threats against journalists in the last quarter of the year under review (2018). It is the seventh edition of published reports since the birth of the Media Alert Office in April 2017.

The Media Alert Report, as usual, takes into consideration issues of attacks, threats and other related media violations against journalists and media institutions across Liberia.

The Alert Report also highlights other major issues, including critical analysis of the trend being taken by Liberia’s media environment, taking into consideration the nature of space being offered by state actors for the media to fully function.

The current Alert Report, in the mind of the Press Union of Liberia/Media Alert Office, this period witnessed increased in inflammatory comments against the media in Liberia from some senior officials of the Weah Administration.   

The Seventh Edition Report contains one lawsuit, three attacks, three threats, and three intimidations.

The Alert Office was set up in 2017 by the PUL, with support from Internews/USIAD, as part of the Media Development Program.

The Press Union of Liberia is calling on the journalism community to help publicize this report as broadcast and publications help dissuade would be violators of free press.
